Day 29 5.4.10

Wikipedia- Yes I would allow my students to use wikipedia because of the sources that can be found within the Work Sited page.. Although this site can be misleading a lot of the work sited links can be used. I think teachers should allow wikipedia but should warn the students not to go completely of the wikipedia information.

Day 28 4.29.10

Today we looked up websites that were not true and we had to find clues on why this site was false. So we took our own thoughts and thought out loud by showing the details using Jing.

The conclusions that I came up with was
*It was a commercial site
*The dogs would be shipped off in wooden crates with now comfort or holes to breath.
* The founders are from the City of Pexian (which is not a real city)
* and if you google dogs island it is off the coast of flordia and it a human island of 100 residents.

ISTE-2. Design and Develop Digital-Age Learning Experiences and Assessments
d. provide students with multiple and varied formative and summative assessments aligned with content and technology standards and use resulting data to inform learning and teaching.

Tuesday, April 27, 2010

Day 27 4.27.10

Today we learned about how we can use the certain websites to tell us whether or not they are reliable websites such as wikipedia...although teachers will not except this website as a reference you can find websites on wikipedias bibliography to help you out with finding other resources. Triangulate is another site you can use as a reliable source.

ISTE-2. Design and Develop Digital-Age Learning Experiences and Assessments
d. provide students with multiple and varied formative and summative assessments aligned with content and technology standards and use resulting data to inform learning and teaching.

Day 26 4.22.10

I learned that smarts boards are very benifical towards science and and history classes but I think the teachers who use these smart boards should be required to take a class because the smart baords are very touchy and sometimes hard to use if you have never used one before. School shouldn't automatically by them because they would be wasing their money if the teachers never used them due to the disadvantage of not knowing how they are used.

Day 25 4.20.10

I think in some classrooms a smart board is worth the investment but not all classrooms should have it. I think classes such as much shouldn't really have them because in music, I believe the students should have more hands on learning with instruments and other music type qualities. I mean there are some websites you can use to to play games and use teachnology such as; some music theory and notaions computers programs but what would happen if you don't have the money to buy those programs the smartboard would be useless and plus the music department is usually the most underfunded classroom and the money would go more insturmental repair and sheet music.

Tuesday, April 13, 2010

Day 24 4.15.10

Smartboards help teachers meet the standards because we have the ability to adapt lessons through the world of technogoly. Smartboards lets a student use creativity and allows students to interact with each other. They can make lessons more fun and and creative for the students. Our lesson that we will be exploring is how to disect a frog and learn about how the frog body works.

ISTE:Design and Develop Digital-Age Learning Experiences and Assessments
2a. design or adapt relevant learning experiences that incorporate digital tools and resources to promote student learning and creativity.

Day 23 4.13.10

Today in class we started learning about the wonders of smart board because they are becoming more common in schools. My school however did not have smart boards... I don't think they were around 'cause I graduate in 2004. In the article "Interactive Whiteboards and Learning: A Review of Classroom Case Studies
and Research Literature."
The article Observations from the United States
"Does the use of an interactive whiteboard as an instructional tool affect student engagement? The unequivocal answer, based on the results of both the surveys and
questionnaires, is yes. The results of the survey indicate that interactive whiteboards can be used in the classroom to increase student engagement during the
learning process" (Beeland 2002). This quote explains why smart boards would be worth the investment. The smart board will encourage students to work together in groups or teams. This will help students learn things more creativity. Smarts boards will also keep the students more interested because technology is so commonly used today. The teacher can as well be more interactive with it instead of sitting behind a computer, they can make there lessons more interesting.

Day 22 4.8.10

My Webquest was not to hard to do because I am use to building websites, I chose the Wanted Composer because it will help students learn about music history is a fun way. Students will think with using more creativity. Students will learn to adapt change and flexibilty throughout this assignment with groups. They will gain what it's like to hold up the end of their bargain and learn how to be a team memeber.

Day 21 4.6.10

This ISTE standards helps me as a future educator because students are so use to using technology these days. So using the web quest assignments will make it more interesting for students. Instead of using boring reading material you should make it more fun for students in middle school to keep their interest up and make it fun for them to learn these typical boring subjects.

ISTE-

d. model and facilitate effective use of current and emerging digital tools to locate, analyze, evaluate, and use information resources to support research and learning.

Thursday, April 1, 2010

Day 20 4.1.10

Today we learned how to use web quest. We searched for a web quest page to use for reference and make it out in our own way. I found the Composers! Wanted web quest. I chose this web quest because it was a website to help students learn more about music history and famous composers. This web quest helps the students learn about past composers in a less boring way. They become detectives which gives them more interest to learn about music history.

Day 19 3.30.10

Today we worked on webquest. We were split up into groups of four and each of us had to choose the type of person we examined web quest. In the groups of four we picked a job. I was the Technophile... which I love practically love the internet. "If a WebQuest has attractive colors, animated gifs, and lots of links to interesting sites, you love it. If it makes minimal use of the Web, you'd rather use a worksheet." The underground railraod was group decision as well and my own decision, It was colerful and it had plenty of links to where you could make you project easier for you.

Iste-2. Design and Develop Digital-Age Learning Experiences and Assessments

d. provide students with multiple and varied formative and summative assessments aligned with content and technology standards and use resulting data to inform learning and teaching.

Day 15 3.9.10

Today in class we look at two different magazine covers of Arnold S. The fisrt cover showed different emotions from the second mag. Both illustrated a very different personality. First one was a body buiilder guy that showed he was strong couldn't be messed with the other showed a serious business/family man. The colors used on the illustration went well with the different ideas. The first one was red represting flames and the second one was blue representing a cooler feeling. We started working on our own magazines today as well

Day 8 2.11.10

Using Technogoly out of class, I have only really used facebook and e-mails to keep in touch with people, as well as the programs I listed for my in school activities such as; Finale to write my own music in my own taste and without having someone grade it and tell you the rules to writing music. I pretty much teach myself how to use technology and I never use a manual! I'd rather learn the ways of a computer by my own mistakes and findings.

Day 7 2.9.10

Today class was canceled but we were asked to talk about a Technology that we have used in School. Since entering Fairmont State I learned how to used many different technologies such as Finale; which is a program that helps you write music and arrange music into your own personal setting. I have also learned programs such as Cakewalk, where you electronically make your own music through a keyboard and different sounds as well as using programs to write marching band drill. This is helpful to future music teachers because it will help you out in the long run if you have to write out a missing part that you don't have or if you don't have the money to buy a marching band drill you can create you own.

ISTE- 5. Engage in Professional Growth and Leadership
a. participate in local and global learning communities to explore creative applications of technology to improve student learning.

Day Six 2.4.10

Today we went on skype to talk to 5th graders from California. Each student had asked a questions for us to answer to them through skype. This a good process because they are getting opions from people across the U.S that have had more years of expierence. My queston was:

How far back should a person go in their Autobiograpgy?
I answered as far back as you can remember starting with where and when you were born.
